About Mahjong Solitaire: Daily Layout
Mahjong Solitaire: Daily Layout is our own take on the classic tile-matching game played with a full set of 144 mahjong tiles. The tiles are stacked into a layout several layers high. Tap two free tiles with the same face and they leave the board. Clear every tile to win.
A tile is free when nothing lies on top of it and its left or right side is open. Blocked tiles are shaded, so you can read the board at a glance, but the puzzle is choosing which pair to take. Most faces come in fours, so when three or four of a kind are free at once, the pair you pick decides which tiles open up next. Any flower matches any other flower and any season matches any season; every other tile matches only its twin. A counter at the top shows how many matching pairs are open right now, and the clock counts up from the first tap.
There are ten layouts of our own design: the Turtle, a five-layer pyramid with a head and a tail, the stepped Temple, the Fortress with its corner towers, the Bridge, the low Meadow, the Pagoda, the Arena with a hole in the middle, the Cross, the Butterfly and the tall Lantern. They are two to five layers high and sized so the tiles stay big on a phone held upright. You can zoom in with the buttons, a pinch or the mouse wheel. Every deal is laid out by taking pairs off the board in reverse, so each one can be cleared. Pick any layout in free play, deal again whenever you like, and the game remembers your best time on each.
Undo is free and unlimited. If no free pair is left, you can undo, restart the deal or end the game. Two helpers cost gems: Hint lights up a matching free pair for 10 gems, and Shuffle lays the remaining tiles out again so they can still be cleared, for 15 gems. Neither changes your score.
The daily deal is one layout and one deal, the same for everyone, new at midnight UTC. Each pair scores 100. Clearing the board adds 500 and a time bonus of 6,000 minus 2 points per second, so the best possible score is 13,700. Your first finish of each daily deal goes on the leaderboard, and finishing every day builds a streak. Mahjong Solitaire is free to play in your browser with no download or sign-up, and its tiles, sound effects and music are all made for the game.

How to Play
- Pick today's daily deal, or choose a layout for a free game.
- Find two free tiles with the same face. A free tile has nothing on top and an open left or right side.
- Tap one tile, then its match, to remove the pair. Tap a blocked tile and it just shakes.
- Any flower matches any flower and any season matches any season.
- Clear all 144 tiles to win. Undo is free if a pair blocks you.
- Faster clears score more: each pair is 100, and a cleared board adds 500 plus a time bonus.
Tips
- When all four tiles of a kind are free, take them both as pairs; the order doesn't matter.
- With three of a kind free, take the pair that opens up the most new tiles and keep the third.
- Work the tall stacks and long rows down first. Tiles at the loose ends can wait.
- Watch the open-matches counter. When it drops to one or two, slow down and plan.
- Undo costs nothing. Try a line, and take it back if it leaves you stuck.
FAQ
- Is Mahjong Solitaire free?
- Yes. It is free to play in any modern browser, with no download and no sign-up.
- Is it real mahjong?
- It is mahjong solitaire, the single-player matching game played with mahjong tiles, not the four-player table game. You only need to spot matching faces.
- Which tiles can I take?
- A tile is free when nothing lies on top of it and its left or right side is open. A tile with neighbours on both sides is blocked even if its top is clear. Blocked tiles are shaded.
- Can every deal be solved?
- Yes. Every deal is laid out by taking pairs off the board in reverse, so a way to clear it always exists. The order you choose still matters, and Undo is free if you get stuck.
- How does the daily deal score?
- Each pair is worth 100. Clearing the board adds 500 and a time bonus of 6,000 minus 2 per second, never below zero, so the most you can score is 13,700. Only your first finish of each daily deal goes on the leaderboard.
- What do gems buy?
- Hint (10 gems) lights up a matching free pair, and Shuffle (15 gems) lays the remaining tiles out again so they can be cleared. Neither changes your score, and you never need them.
